First Fishing Event of 2024!

Meet at the Furnace
Meet at Blackberry Furnace

Don’t forget that our annual opener is on Friday, April 12th, 2024, 5 PM-Dusk. Park at the Blackberry Furnace on Lower Road in E. Canaan. We’ll be fishing on the Blackberry River. Thad Stewart will be on hand to show you some of the best medium-size stream fishing in one of the few tailwater streams in the NW Corner. The Blackberry River is not a TMA, and all types of rods are acceptable (see the current regulations for information on spinning or casting gear. You may also keep the legal-size fish you catch.

For fly anglers, bring either a nymphing rod in the 2-3wt class to bump the bottom or for fishing at all levels of the water, a 4wt or 5wt 8-9ft rod with a floating line is fine. Due to weather fluctuations, I can’t predict the current flow now, but look for updates in our April newsletter, or review this page for up-to-date current and flow info as well as a fishing report and a report on hatches.

Make sure you purchase a State of Connecticut fishing license and trout stamp for the year in which you’ll be fishing. You can do this on our Fishing License Page.
