We have not scheduled a membership meeting in February because instead, we will have our 2024 Authentic Game Dinner/Fundraiser. The Game Dinner/Funsraiser will be held on Saturday, February 3rd, at the Torrington Country Club, 250 Sharon-Goshen Tpke (Route 4) in Goshen. Membership Meetings are not held in April or May as most of our leadership are teaching in the Fly Fishing Classes, and fishing on their nights off. In June because many of our members are away at our June Fishing Trip (Trouphy waters within six hours of our home in Litchfield, CT.) In July & August because it’s too hot and many folks are just too busy, during the summer of are on vacation with their kids. Our president heads out west to Wyoming and/or Montana to fish during those two months. Our Membership Meetings begin again in September.

Classes

In 2024 we will be holding our Fly Tying classes on Saturday afternoons, beginning on January 20th and ending on April 6th, for a total of ten class sessions. Each class is 2 1/2 hours. Our classes will be held at the NWCSA Clubhouse, the same location as our meetings, a well-insulated heated building on a plowed road in Colebrook, CT.

From 2016 to 2023 we held Beginner’s Fly Fishing Classes on Thursday Evenings every March-April. Our 2024 classes will move to Wednesday evenings in April and May. The beginner’s class runs for 90 minutes per evening, beginning at 6:00 p.m. for six consecutive Wednesdays. This is so all those folks who normally work or are on call on Thursday Evenings may attend the classes. Normally the first two sessions are held on private property in a heated facility due to weather. Then, future sessions are held in or near Peoples State Forest, Barkhamsted, CT near the Farmington River. In cases of inclement weather, zombies, or locusts, a session may be held elsewhere. Thankfully, we haven’t yet had to relocate for either zombies or locusts, but we are ready, just in case.

Each session has a review of the last week’s lessons, a review of the homework assignment, and a new set of lessons for that particular week. Because there’s so much to pack into only four sessions, it’s important that you make it on time to each class session. At the last session, you will receive a completion certificate.

During the last week of any class, students are offered the opportunity to join Trout Unlimited at half off the regular price of $35 per year. We accept cash or checks only for membership fees. After the first year, you can sign up at the regular price. Seniors may sign up after the first year for only $25 a year, and family membership is only $55.00. New members of TU may choose the TU chapter in their part of the world or NWCTU.
