Get Involved in Conservation!

The NWCTU mission focuses on Education, Conservation, and Recreation.  We are building relationships with area conservation groups in the Northwest Corner to achieve our Conservation mission. One of the ways we support companion organizations is by having NWCTU members volunteer for clean-up events.  On November 4 NWCTU members were there to help the Winchester 2nd Annual River Clean Up organized by the Winchester Conservation Commission. Clean-up efforts focused on the Mad River running through the center of town. In addition to the forty-three-grain bags filled with litter, the group cleaned the following from the Mad River and the surrounding area:

  • 8 car tires including a tire rim
  • one 5-gallon metal can
  • one gallon of paint
  • chicken wire fencing
  • a styrofoam cooler
  • wire shelving
  • a lawn umbrella
  • 1/2 of antifreeze
  • aluminum house siding
  • $10 bill
